Le Mans-inspired Jaguar F-Pace SVR Edition 1988 launched

The new Jaguar F-Pace SVR Edition 1988 is a homage to the iconic Le Mans-winning XJR-9, and is on sale now

Jaguar won the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours in 1988 with its XJR-9 sporting the legendary ‘Silk Cut’ purple livery, and now the British brand is paying tribute to that iconic victory with the new F-Pace SVR Edition 1988.

Jaguar’s SV Bespoke division has finished the special edition F-Pace in Midnight Amethyst gloss paintwork, Champagne Gold satin 22-inch forged alloy wheels and Sunset Gold accents. There’s also gold Jaguar lettering on the tailgate and laser-etched ‘Edition 1988’ logos on the front wings.

The Edition 1988 features the ‘Black Pack’ option from the rest of the line-up as standard, but on top of this there are also black door mirror caps, brake calipers and centre caps. The letter R on the SVR badge is also finished in black.

The interior has also been given a slight makeover, with carbon fibre trim and more gold detailing on the steering wheel, gear shift paddles and performance seats.

As a nod to the 394 laps the XJR-9 completed on the way to its 1988 win, only 394 Edition 1988s will be built, and there’s an emblem inside to signify the limited production run of vehicles.

There are no changes to the powertrain, so the Edition 1988 offers the same 542bhp  5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine. This means an unchanged 0-60mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 178mph. This also means the car’s claimed efficiency of 23.1mpg and 275g/km of CO2 is unchanged.

Pricing has been increased over the standard SVR however, reflecting its exclusivity at the top of Jaguar’s performance SUV line-up.

The Edition 1988 costs from £101,550 in the UK, £23,955 more than the standard F-Pace SVR. The F-Pace Edition 1988 will be on display at the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside the 1988 Le Mans-winning XJR-9 that inspired its creation.
